Cyanide fishing began in the ***0's when it was clear that pretty marine fish could be sold to the west and shipped by jet. There is a great deal of discussion about global warming and the effects this will have on the oceans of the world. that corals will die in temperatures of *8 degrees plus. The fact that cyanide and blast fishing is taking place right now in over *0 countries. that thousands of miles of reef have been devastated and stocks reduced to the point of extinction.

Various attempts have been made over the years with options to train collectors in the use of nets. However the thousands of fishermen involved in collecting aquarium fish and edible fish such  as grouper and snapper would be minimal.The solution lies in the technology available to the world as a whole to find an alternative to cyanide. However the sale of cyanide is big business.with prices ranging from $6 a kilo depending on which country.

Live fish sales in Hong Kong and China have resulted in high prices but most live fish are caught with the poison which remains in the intestines.

Solutions to these problems have to be to produce fish for production in fish farms,properly monitored and producing quality fish. thus reducing the pressure on wild stocks. In many places in South east asia some species have already vanished. The risk to the reef already exists and is ignored. whilst importers are happy to buy fish and not care how they are caught it will go on.
